    Default Zencarts on Godaddy

Has anybody had experience setting up zencarts on godaddy?
I signed up as their affiliate and plan to set up zencarts as a business as well as hosting but they have the most bizaare rules and issues with permission settings. Most other "issues" things I got around with a little tweaking.
If anybody else has experience (and especially success) setting zen carts up on godaddy please let me know what you did to make it work (Especially concerning the permission settings) please enlighten us with your knowledge
    Thanks
    Norn

The short answer you'll get here from most Zenners about hosting with GoDaddy is: "Don't".

Search the forums for 'godaddy' for more info.

Most of the posts I've ever read on the forum concerning ZC on GoDaddy have not been very encouraging.

I'd echo what Steve says... DON'T... and as you can see, we read and reply to thousands of posts !

I agree with Stevesh and SchoolBoy - as a former goDaddy user and reseller I can tell you to RUN.

First - are they still CHARGING you to be a reseller?

You need to check out the database backup issues - not a good situation when you can't get a good backup or import a db.

Then - once you've done the extra steps so the cart can function properly on goDaddy servers - watch the load times increase to something dreadful! A sorry consequence of their overloaded servers - and the support is nothing short of a joke "it's all the blank space in your files" .....

    I repeat, RUN!!!

I recently tested a Zen Cart install on godaddy and I will never host a live site with them. It may be because I'm on a shared server. So if you're planning to host your Zen Cart there, think again. I wish I had come here and done some research first.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, godaddy still charges $200 a year to be a reseller. I figured that being a reseller would generate commissions for years and I could continually help customers who I do my webdesign for.
Thats better I figure than an affiliate program where you get a great commission up front but then nothing and customers are sort of on their own.
But godaddy simply wont work with zencart so I closed my reseller account within their 30 day rule. I find it bizaare that it is impossible to set individual file permissions (But there were other problems to - including slow or non responding filemanager).
I see a lot of affiliate programs but nobody else seems to have a reseller account. Does anybody recomend any company offering reseller accounts that works well with godaddy?
    Thanks

Not sure what 'works well with goDaddy' means here. Are you looking for a host which works with Zencart and offers reseller accounts?

Sounds like a typical situation that most Web Designers and/or Graphic Artists find themselves in. It's only natural that your Clients will also look to you as their "Web Guru" and expect a lot, when it comes to anything Web related.

Forget GoDaddy for a Reseller Hosting account and check out the Certified Hosters or create your own list. And hang on too that list. If you have switch Hosters down the road at least you'll still have your research which could save you time in finding a new Hoster.
