application error CSS not loading even on default template

I've been battling with the Shopping Cart to look like something. Currently there is no formatting, just text, see:

    http://74.53.104.194/~idtechn/zencar...php?main_page=

I've tried renaming the .htaccess files to htaccess_OFF to disable the security protections as in:

    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=235

but it doesn't do anything. Even when Zencart was first installed with the default template, it never looked like anything other than the style shown on my shopping page as shown above.

Please help. I think I've tried everthing I could find.

The Web Developer Tools tell me there are two style sheets being loaded on that page, and when I tell it to turn them off, the page changes slightly. Interestingly, when I tell it to Edit the sylesheet, it displays two empty stylesheets, so I've no idea what is changing when I turn them off. Verrrrryyyyy interesting.

Do you have a local copy of the default Zen Cart files? If not, download the whole set and unzip it on your hard drive. Then go into includes/templates/classic/css and copy the stylesheet.css file you find there to your server in the same location. (Make sure classic is the working template, in your admin.) Make sure the permissions are correct, as per the install instructions. Now view the site. Better? Carry on. Not better? Post back here and we'll try again. ;-)

Ok copied stylesheet.css as instructed, but it only changes the text content slightly, since the template was set up a bit differently.

Still don't see any pretty colours or anything, still looks like someone's first school html project:

    http://74.53.104.194/~idtechn/zencar...php?main_page=

    ***********
I started out using my webspace for development, so I had also tried to make a local server on my PC using Apache, but I can't seem to install zen cart using the command:

    http://localhost/C:%5CProgram%20File...ll%5Cindex.php

and tried many variations like above. Any hints on that?

If you want to work locally, which I do for testing new things, it's easiest to install XAMPP and do the Zen Cart install there. There are instructions around here somwehere for doing that. (I use MAMP on my Mac.)

As for the CSS issue, I've no idea what could cause the page to say it's reading the stylesheets but they're empty when viewed through the web developer tools. At a guess, I'd say there is a path problem, maybe in your configure files.

SO I followed your advice about the XAMPP and it works. The install process goes well until I get to the Zen Cart™ Setup - System Inspection and it says:

CURL not compiled into PHP - notify server administrator

    it looks like:

do you know how to resolve this?

I tried this: downloaded cURL but have no clue how to install it. It is a command prompt program with all kinds of switches.

I found this in another post here on the forum... (searched for "Curl XAMPP")

PS don't forget to turn on cURL by changing the php.ini in /xampp/php/php.ini, all you have to do is to delete the ; in front of the cURL extention.
It was a while ago, but I think that's all I had to do in MAMP as well. It's just a switch in your XAMPP files.

    That did it. Thanks!

I did, however have to restart my Apache for it to work.

I've been trying to copy my remote data to my localhost, and have gotten to step 6 in:

    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=100

    which jumps over to:

    http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...products_id=82

It does not seem to do anything when I "run it", which I think means you have to go to http://localhost/zencart/configure.php in the browser (if my path to the admin page is http://localhost/zencart/admin/index.php, so the path should be the same, right?)

Incidentally, when I go back to the admin it looks like this:

Am I supposed to get the includes\configuration.php file from the new server or the old one? Is that the problem??? I have no clue what I'm doing.
