photos big vs photos thumbs...help!

This is my first post, and I am NOT a computer person, so if anyone can explain this in simple terms, I will be forever greatfull!


As I am getting used to the Zen cart, and adding items, I noticed a problem.
The thumb photos displayed are very grainy. Especially if I add the 600x600 72DPI image while adding a product, it get's grainey when it get's reduced by the zen cart into a thumb image...

When I enter an item is askes me to upload the photo. I have tried to upload a thumb photo 100x100,
and when I do, it looks far better on the site, way more crisp, however, it will not enlarge when clicked on.

If I upload a large photo, it enlarges when clicked on, but looks poor, and is dificult to make out the detail. I also have several different photos of a single product, and I figured out how to add those in by adding _1, _2, etc. Problem still is that when zen makes them into thumbs, they look crappy.

I know when I had the OScart, I used to upload a thumb into a thumb file, and larger images into a images-big file.
I tried doing this in the Zen, I made the directories in the file listing of the site, all looks good, but the thumb will not enlarge.

Before I get to keyboard happy uploading tons of fuzzy images, I'd like to know what you think of this, and how you think I can fix it.

First of all 600x600 is huge. Make the images smaller.

Secondly, consider IH2 (Image Handler 2) available in the free software add-on section. I use it on the Holzheimer site in my sig. I upload one size image and Zen Cart and IH2 do the rest.

If you don't want to use IH2, you'll have to create 3 different sizes of the same image and upload them to the correct folders. Check the Tutorials/FAQ for more info.
