If the page won't display, then that means you've set the permissions too low for your particular server. You'll likely need to use a higher value for your server's configuration.
Normally it's quite safe to leave *folders* set at 755, and the *files* inside those folders set at 644.
Maybe you mistakenly set the *folder* to 644, which would break things.

I did set the folder to 644. I changed the folder back to 755 and the files in the folder to 644 and that worked fine.
