    Default cannot load my images

Hi, I am new to Zen Cart. Site is www.faydesigns.net.

I have read and re-read about how to upload multiple images and have scrolled through numerous forums but still cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.

I have a jewellery website and wish to display the main product image and 1 or 2 close-ups as well (therefore 2 - 3 images per product). I have small, medium and large images of each product in the sizes specified by the tutorial.

e.g. I have a bracelet with two images (front and back angles), I wish to have the front angle as the main image and the customer can click on the back angle image to see product from the other side. files are 'pearl_bracelet_lge_01' and 'pearl_bracelet_lge_02' at 640 pixels wide, 'pearl_bracelet_med_01' and 'pearl_bracelet_med_02' at 240 pixels wide and 'pearl_bracelet_sml_01' and 'pearl_bracelet_sml_02' at 120 pixels wide.

Question 1.) If I upload 'pearl_bracelet_sml_01' via admin - catalog - categories/products area then I cannot upload the second product image 'pearl_bracelet_sml_02' 02 will overwrite 01. How can I get both images on the page?

Question 2.) I upload large and medium images via FTP in 'public_html / images / large' and 'public_html / images / medium' and then upload them to the webpage via admin - catalog - products/categories "select an existing image file from server, filename: " at the bottom of the page.

My problem is that these images will not display and I cannot figure out why.

I think I am just completely confused about the whole image subject in general and would really appreciate some help.

Regards from a really confused Gerri

You only upload the one image by the admin panel, the small image.

Then upload the _MED and the _LRG by ftp. Zen Cart will find them using the naming conventions it uses.

Likewise the additional images. Just upload them by ftp and the cart will find them.

    Hi Niccol

Thanks for replying to my questions. I understand what you are saying, my problem is that there are two or three small images for each product (i.e. multiple images for one item) and I can only load one image via the admin panel and will therefore be loading two or three large and two or three medium images via FTP - also the images that I load via FTP will not show on the webpage - just the image title will appear.

OK. there are two issues here.

    1. having additional images for a product.
    2. uploading different sizes of the same image to help with the load times of the page.

Forget about the second issue for the time being.

If you want to have more than one image of the product Zen Cart allows this functionality by a naming process.

You upload your first file by the admin panel and call it pearl_bracelet.jpg. That lets zen cart 'know' that the images for this product will all be called pearl_bracelet_something.jpg.

So, then upload by ftp a file that is called pearl_bracelet_01.jpg which is the additional image for the product. This will appear on the additional images display on the product_info page. You can also upload pearl_bracelet_02.jpg and it will also appear.

I think that your problem is using the _sml bits that seem to be in your filenames. The image that is added by the admin just needs to be called pearl_bracelet.jpg not pearl_bracelet_sml.jpg. (If it is called pearl_bracelet_sml.jpg then the medium image must be called pearl_bracelet_sml_MED,jpg)

Once that works you can think about having different size versions of all these images.

    pearl_bracelet.jpg
    pearl_bracelet_MED.jpg
    pearl_bracelet_LRG.jpg

These are also uploaded by ftp to the appropriate folders.

On a different note you can also have a look at image handler which is a mod that resizes images for you so you only have to upload the large versions.

Hi, I totally see what you mean about the sml and med bits in the filenames - it is so obvious once it was pointed out to me. Your explanation about the actual filenames is very good - it is the first time I actually understand the file naming format for ZC - thanks a bunch for that. I will definately have a look at image handler - it sounds like something I need.

Again thanks for your help, it is really appreciated - this problem was driving me nuts.

    Regards, Gerri
