What are Attributes??

I think I have an idea of what attributes are but I want to make sure. Could someone show me an example of one please?

The best analogy is t-shirts. The t-shirt woukld be the product, and colors and sizes would be attributes. a little easier than creating a separate product for each size/color combination. Here's an example from the demo products - Model and Memory are attributes:
