    red flag Miscellaneous payments box required

    Hi, we'd like a Miscellaneous payments box somewhere on our website, probably at the bottom of the homepage, where evers easiest really! So that customers can enter an amount if they are say, for example picking the item up so wont be paying for postage (we dont want to have a free collection option when they checkout we're having enough hassle with shipping solutions as it is) We simply want a Miscellaneous payments box for customers to purchase something thats not on the website, i.e to enter an additional amount for special postage or something thats not a usual run of the mill item.

    I am just struggling to see how this can work though, will the customer still have to create an account?? Can I choose if they should or not? Any advice on how to put in a miscellaneous payments box (with a choice of different methods for the customer to pay with like at the normal checkout) will be much appreciated as I have no idea where to start!

    Many thanks.

    You could create a "Miscellaneous Payments" product, in its own category by the same name, and set it at a price of $1.00. The customer can enter the quantity to purchase, and will be charged that amount. Add a text input attribute so they can describe right there what the payment is for; you will also have to decide if this will be "taxable" (tax added to the amount entered) or total as is. You would probably want to set the shipping to free, or make the product virtual with no shipping information required. See my site for an example: Wedding & Betrothal > Custom Rings > Custom Project.

    That's really helpful thank you, but what if the total price is for example 5.99, 5.95 or 5.50?? I thought you could only enter whole numbers into the product quantity box and therefore wouldnt the price they pay always have to be a whole number is if the product price is 1.00?

    Thanks for your help much appreciated!

    The Min, Max and Units boxes in the product editing page let you fine-tune quantities allowed. Set Min [1], Max [0] and Units [0.01] and you will get an add to cart display like

    Qty:[1] Units: 0.01
    *Mixed OFF (add to cart)

    If you set the min other than 1, you will get a note about that too:

    Qty:[10] Min: 10 Units: 0.01
    *Mixed OFF (add to cart)

    quick question though, where in the admin is the 'product editing page' so that I can do what you mention here;

    The Min, Max and Units boxes in the product editing page let you fine-tune quantities allowed. Set Min [1], Max [0] and Units [0.01] and you will get an add to cart display like

    Qty:[1] Units: 0.01
    *Mixed OFF (add to cart)

    If you set the min other than 1, you will get a note about that too:

    Qty:[10] Min: 10 Units: 0.01
    *Mixed OFF (add to cart)

    Ok, so ive set up a category called Miscellaneous Payments with a product Miscellaneous Payments, ive set the price to 1.00, Min to 1, Max to 0 and Units as 0.01

    but when i add it the cart and say want to put the quantity as 2.95 so that they are charged £2.95, it wont work and says 'The quantity added to your cart has been adjusted. The item you wanted is not available in fractional quantities. The quantity of item: Miscellaneous Payments, has been changed from: 2.95 to 3'

    but i thought id set it so that fractionak quantities were allowed. Not sure what I'm missing.

    Go to the Configuration ... Stock ... and change the decimal places on the quantity to 2:
    Product Quantity Decimals
    Allow how many decimals on Quantity

    0= off

    0
    1
    2
