Update Stock control from physical shop

Hi happy Zen People.
I've been using zen for my wifes shop now for 3 years with great success. Got the cookbook for 1.3.7 and my lack of posts probably gives away how easy it has all been.Had 3 zen carts running at one time- no problems. However She has done really well, bought a physical shop and no longer works from home.
The problem is if an item is sold in the real shop , zen cart stock levels are not updated. Is there are easy way of doing this?
I am happy programming in Pascal/ Delphi for Lazarus in Linux (Sorry- old language - it's been a long time!). But I don't think I can write a module in PHP!
I am looking for a way of updating items sold over the counter into zen. I can write code to write a text/XML file with the items sold from the bar code reader, but where to go from there?
I could write a program to use the easy populate export file, update it and import it again, but I would rather have a real time solution if possible. I am sure other with physical shops must also be running zen, but I have searched the forums for a solution and can't find one.

have exactly the same problem, not sure how to solve it
