    Default Configuring email | smtp host problems

    Hey guys

    I'm a huge beginning with zen cart so bare with me

    I'm running a send email test through the admin of zen cart but it keeps spitting out a hosting error:

    Email Error: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

    I've tried changing the SMTP Email Mail Server and SMTP Email Mail Server fields to their correct changes as provided by the email client but the error persists. please help!

    If you think the configuration is correct (also the port!), ask your provider if the access to the smtp server is blocked by a firewall. Are you using an SMTP server that is provided by your provider?

    I n the meantime, use a different email transportation method (PHP or sendmail).

    I dont think bluehost provides google as an SMTP host. unless they do and i'm looking in the wrong place (I hope this is not the problem) as stated before, bare with me because i am a huge beginner

    I am using bluehost in conjunction with zencart and am trying to use gmail (google apps) as my email avenue. Here is the server and port that was provided from google:

    Server: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
    Use Authentication: Yes
    Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
    Port: 465 or 587

    Are there any other configurations i should check out?


    [Also, the first posting had a typo. It should say "I've tried changing the SMTP Email Mail HOST and SMTP Email Mail Server PORT"]

    Check your Zencart E-mail configuration:

    E-Mail Transport Method: SMTPAUTH
    SMTP Email Account Mailbox username######################
    SMTP Email Account Password ***********
    SMTP Email Mail Host smtp.gmail.com
    SMTP Email Mail Server Port 465

    That should be all for configuration.

    have you enabled Pop3 or imap access in your gmail account? If not enable it as this could be a problem as well.
