Automatic Price Updates?

I have a potential customer who wants a website to sell silver and gold coins. Because the price of these metals fluctuate daily, it can be challenging to update the prices of all of the items to keep the markup at a certain amount or percentage.

Is there a way, a module, etc. out there that would allow me to say on "this" item i want a $2 markup over the spot silver price and have the website automatically update the prices?

It would be a similar concept to the currency converter. Depending on the exchange rate for any given day, the website will update it accordingly. I want to do the same thing, just with my product prices.

The kicker is that it would only be certain products that would need to be automatically updated. If I could set an entire category to automatically update I can make that work if it's easier than each product individually.

Please help--me getting this job depends on whether or not I can make this work!

This is quite a specific need for which there is no off-the-shelf solution. But it would be relatively straightforward to develop with the automatic currency update showing the way.

The most complicated part would be accessing and using the spot prices. Unfortunately you haven't told us anything about where these would be coming from and in what format.

Sorry about that. Most likely they would be coming from kitco.com.

Or even if there is another software package out there already for this type of live pricing, maybe there would be a way to modify it to work with Zen Cart? My initial searches turned up nothing, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

have you had any luck with the auto updates? I have the same issue. I need my prices to reflect the current spot prices +the added profit. I've searched high and low (as far as I know) on this forum and the web.
