Disable flat rate shipping when free shipping available

My free shipping module is dependent on the order total (over 300). Once you have enough items in the shopping cart to pass the total for free shipping, the free shipping option do indeed show up, however, the 9 dollar flat rate is still there as an option. I want the flat rate to disappear as an option when the order total is over 300. Any ideas?

If everyone gets Free Shipping on orders over 300 ... turn off the Shipping Module Free Shipping Options freeoptions and go to the Modules ... Order Totals ... Shipping ot_shipping ... and set the Free Shipping on for 300 ...

Is there a way to stop the USPS flat rate from showing up for international orders only? Right now I am offering USPS service module for international orders. Everything else ships UPS and if they have one item in the cart they can choose the flat rate. I hope this makes sense. :)

Make a Zone for the United States ... be aware that if you say All Zones that this includes All States plus DC, US Islands and Territories, Armed Forces ... and add that to the Flat Rate flat shipping module and now it will only work with what you have defined in the Zone ...

I am pretty new to setting up zones. There are a bunch already created but when I go to set up shipping method there is only my state (NC) zone available from the drop down menu. ??

I think I figured it out. It works great. I just set the zone and then went back to my shipping modules and only applied certain ones to certain zones as applicable. :)
