Header Logo Image not displaying

So I thought it might be easier to use the header as my logo, and delete the logo. But when I uploaded it, it was all pixelated. In the meantime, I did everything I could think of to delete the logo (just found the page that tells me how) but now I'm thinking that it might be wise to use the header logo image. The problem is that I can't get it to work. I'm not sure what I changed or deleted to make it not work.

please go easy on me, am a total newb trying to figure this stuff out. Have been through the forums many times trying to find this, but I'm afraid I deleted something in the code somewhere that will prevent me from fixing it.

I uploaded my logo to logo.gif in the images folder under my current templete.

You say you uploaded it bu entering the following without space yeilds a 404 not found

yes, of course, I had it in the wrong folder. Okay, that is fixed, but of course it has brought up a whole new set of circumstances.

I put logo.gif in there, and got it to work fine....but, it was all pixelated, little black dots all over, so I decided to upload a logo.jpg, and just change my code to logo.jpg,
The good thing is that it got it in there.
The bad news is that it is super huge and I can't find where to change the size. I have the Firebug module, and when I look at the html, it says it is 1475 x 300 - if I edit it to 500 x 100, it looks just perfect!
I've looked in the header, and changing that doesn't seem to work, am really stumped on this one, trying to use my forum questions sparingly, but this one is getting the best of me.

Is it possible for me to ban myself from the site for asking such stupid questions? OMG, thank you. (in my defense using publisher for an imaging editor program is a touch challenging :))
