Is it possible to have an abbreviated category description for subsequent product listing pages (i.e., category page 2, 3, 4, etc)?

In other words, when i set up my categories descriptions, I want the initial page to be elaborate and SE friendly but don't want my customers to have to navigate through the same stuff page after page as they drill deeper into the product listings.
