change zen cart database

Hello there,

I previously have a zen cart shopping cart which works well.

And now i have another SHOP which i want create another shopping cart this shop.

I wish to COPY AND PASTE my previous shopping cart to save my hassle, but it seems that the database of products, customers needed to be change (cause 2 shops are selling different products), may i know what should i do?

Your question isn't clear to me, but I believe you want to duplicate your current Zen Cart.

First, create a database for the new store.

Second, you can either do a fresh install of Zen Cart for the new database OR you can copy all your current files and folders to create the new cart. If you do a completely new install, you can copy your override folders to the new install.

Hello there, iyou are correct, i wanna duplicate my store.

QUESTION 1:
But I have 2 questions here: if i wanna "copy all your current files and folders to create the new cart", but the database would be overlapping (meaning any changes in store 1, the changes will affect store2) so what should i do?

QUESTION 2:
If i do a fresh install of zen cart for store 2, when create the database, will it be overlapping or override any database i have in store q?

Since you're selling different merchandise on the second store, you need to create a separate database for it.

If you copy all the existing folders and files to create the new store, you'll need to change the database information in the configure files, so they point to the new database.

With separate databases, the stores won't effect each other.

If you do a fresh install, you would point it to the new database.

If you're expecting to use the same database for both stores, then you'll have to be aware that changes to one (for example, changing templates, adding new products) will effect the other.
