Setting a Default Shipping Option

I couldn't see the answer to this question having a look around the forum so thought I'd post a new thread in order to see if anybody knows:

The shipping module automatically selects the cheapest module for the customer when they progress to the checkout page. My question is that I offer free shipping (which is used as default) but I'd like to explicitly select a default shipping method to be used (RM Special Delivery). How do I set this? Does anybody know what I would have to change to get this to happen?

I need to know how to do this as well. lingray were you able to find an answer? This is a very important aspect as we have local delivery for select areas only but the cart is defaulting to that option.
