    Default Please help!

I believe I am using PHP Version 5.0.4 of ZenCart. I'm new at this and am so confused. all the threads are amazing and have helped a ton but I still have questions, that well seem easy yet I can't seem to figure out. Any help would be really appreciated.

For starters I can't seem to find things. Can someone please dumb it down for me...
To remove the congrats you have successfully installed... the thread for that states open the includes/languages/English/index.php file. How do I get to this. I can't find a folder that says includes.

That's my main problem, not finding stuff. How do I find the index folder, or where the images are stored, or where to edit the text on the shipping page, or my banner on the top of the page. Most stuff says go to includes... Where is that please. If anyone can help me that would be so great!

Thanks in advance, I know many of you are past all this but anything to throw me back on track would be great!!! THANK-YOU!!!

    Hi Mickey,

Does your webhost use cpanel? If so, it's easy to get into your files. You can log on to your cpanel (which should be at yourwebsite . com/cpanel) and then choose "file manager." Once you find your files, you can explore around a little and see how they're arranged, and do a search for the file you're looking for. Do a "right click" on the file and choose "edit" and a new window should open where you can make the adjustments you want and save them there.

You can also try using your FTP program, and connecting to your ip address, and open your files from there. Then you can tweak and reupload them (overwrite).

I'm just a beginner too, so probably someone else has more efficient ideas for you. But, if you do use cpanel, it should be easy enough once you get in there.

If you go into your hosting control panel, you should have a file manager that will let you look at the file/folder structure. Don't use that for editing files, though, as the built-in editors can cause problems.

Do you have an FTP client like Filezilla yet? You will need to use that to download files to your pc, edit them with a text/file editor like Notepad++ or CrimsonEditor (both free from Sourceforge), and FTP them back to your server.

Hi Glenn, what kinds of problems arise from editing files in the cpanel? I have been doing a little of both, some in the cpanel, and some with my FTP. Right now, I'm having some big fat problems that I will post about presently, because I need some help...

The editor in the file manager will leave extra space (usually referred to as "white space") at the end of php files, but that interfers with the processing of the php and can lead to all sorts of odd behavior (like blank pages). You are much better off editing with a good text editor and FTPing the files to your website.

The plus side of doing it that way is you create an "instant backup" of your site on your local computer.

Thanks, I don't believe we have the c-panel so will have to try the uploading thing. The problem is a lot of the site was done before I got here, so I'm trying to figure out what was done and how they did it... thank you all for your help!

I suggest you download the whole thing to your hard drive and take it from there. It'll probably be easier for you to work with that way.

Unless you are running your own server, you likely have a webmaster panel which acts as an interface for the website.

There a couple good free FTP clients out there. The login will be ftp.yoursitename, and the user and pwd the same as your cpanel. If you use one of these programs to connect you'll see a folder called public_html, and all of your folders will be in there.

If you use fireFox this FTP client works right inside the browser: fireftp.mozdev.org

This one is a stand-along FTP client: filezilla-project.org

And don't forget the Zen FAQ and Wikis. Links on the top right of this page.
