red flag Changing IP Address on Same Server

    Hi folks

I need a bit of help here.

I setup my Zen Cart on my VPS (Virtual Private Server), but didn't realise SSL needs an exclusive IP address, until virtually everything has been done. Please note (as is probably obvious!), everything I do is self taught, so no fully qualified Sys Admin here!

Anyway, I thought it was a simple matter of logging in via Plesk and switching the hosting setup from the old IP address to a new one that is exclusive to my site.

However, after switching it under "Domains ---> My Site ---> Webhosting Settings", the site vanishes, only to be replaced by the standard Plesk splash page. I assumed it was because it hadn't propogated via DNS, so I went to bed, but this morning when I woke up it was still showing the Plesk page.

I checked the site using my iPhone, and it's showing the site correctly. However, when I enter the (new) IP address, the site loads, but ONLY THE TEXT.

Am I missing something really obvious here?!

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

I forgot to specify - this is when I enter the new IP address on my PC, not the iPhone.

This is almost certainly a DNS issue. You are accessing the main page by IP, but you are unable to load the images, stylesheets, etc, because Zen is giving a hostname in the links. When you go to a command prompt on your system and type in "nslookup <your domain>" without the quotes, do you see the proper IP address?

    For example:

    c:\>nslookup www.generationscrafting.com
    Server: (my dns server)
    Address: (my dns server's IP)

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: generationscrafting.com
    Address: 216.40.253.187
    Aliases: www.generationscrafting.com

The address listed should be your new IP, not your old one. If it's the old one, you will need to work with your hosting provider (or DNS registrar if they are not the same) to change it. If you put in a call to their help desk, they should be able to walk you through it. Good luck!

Cool, thank you for the reply! I was getting a little concerned there! So I guess I just have to sit it out and be patient a little longer.

    Ok, this is just weird.

The IP address has definitely updated, as suggested by doing the nslookup in cmd. It's definitely showing the new IP address.

When I check the site with a different computer using the same router that my PC is on, it browses to the site no problem, and will show changes I make to the site by altering a file via FTP (ie a logo).

I tried clearing the DNS by doing ipconfig /flushdns, but on my PC it's still showing the Plesk splash page?!

I'm using Firefox - do you think its a Firefox issue?

EDIT: Ok, I just found the problem. Somehow my hosts file in /windows/system32/drivers/etc had the old IP address still logged. Deleted the entry and it's all good now.
