Would like one category to be viewable only by certain customers

Howdy - I searched for this but only found one unanswered post from 2006! So I apologize if this is a "duh" question.

Here's what I'd like to do:

"Jane" registers. I grant Jane "industrial" status. (Maybe make her part of an "Industrial" group)

Now when Jane logs in, she can see the Industrial category. I only want certain customers to see that category though.

Hopefully that makes sense. I recently installed a fresh version of zen cart, so I haven't installed quantity discounts or dual pricing modules yet ... waiting to hear the answer to this. So I have a fairly virgin copy of zen cart right now!

I think you are looking for the equivalent of a password protected category/categories.

This does not appear to be possible yet, despite many folk having a need for such a facility. Apparently it would need modding to a lot of files. A commercial solution may be in existence but I have not heard of one.

Other folk are looking at running multiple sites linked to the same database.

Short answer is there is no easy solution, such as a tick in a box in Admin, to do this :-((

let me know how you get on. I just did a similar thing for a client with up to five 'VIP' categories visible only to VIPs which are selected in admin. At the moment it is a bit specific to that site but I could make it more general....

Have you looked at the hiddenCategories addon?

I don't think that hidden categories displays/hides based on customer's status but I may be mistaken...

The only problem is its incompatibility with SQL5... Other than that, it'd be perfect for something we'd want to put in place.
