Default No 'Order Number' generated at end of ordering process.

After looking through the site I have not found any questions regarding having no 'Order Number' being generated.

Running the latest ZenCart Install. Did a test and went through the complete ordering process. But no order number was generated.

Had read elsewhere about changing the starting order number in the MY STORE section but that was from a very old version of zencart. That field is not available on this version.

What payment method did you use? Were the order emails generated?

Currently only have Paypal as a payment setup. Will add the authorize.net module once the order number has been resolved.

No I did not see any order emails.

PayPal Website Payments Standard / IPN has a technical limitation that requires Paypal's server to talk to your server in the background while the customer waits to be returned to your site after making payment. If anything blocks that or anything goes wrong in the midst of that, you'll not see the order.

If you are stuck on using PayPal Website Payments Standard / IPN, then you'll have to get your server's communications open between Paypal and you: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/PayPal

Or, you can use Express Checkout, which doesn't have the limitations that "Standard" has.

So the reason I didn't get the generated email was because I did not update to the correct email for the admin. I will check for it again once I do another test.

The order is logged in the database. It has been billed and credited. So the connection between my server and paypal is working correctly.

I just don't understand why there is no ORDER NUMBER generated. It is blank in the description during checkout. After the order is complete and I'm returned to mysite for the final thank you the ORDER NUMBER is blank.

Thanks for the responses...hope the question is clearer now.

It's blank because the PayPal server hasn't communicated with *your* server to confirm payment of the order before your customer arrives back at their checkout-success page.

If PayPal's servers are backlogged, or if your server is on a slower internet connection, you will run into those problems when using "Standard". You won't have that problem if you use Express Checkout, since it doesn't have to wait for that background communication to occur.

Switched over to using express checkout. Works great and now have the order number generated at the final thank you page. Though the number is low. Anyway to have it start with higher number?

I believe now the servers are talking to each other. But I still don't get a confirmation email. Though I believe it has to do with the email setup issue with using BlueHost.

    Overall...Thanks DrByte

You can change the next Order Number via Admin->Tools->Store Manager
