creating a new shipping module

I would like to know how to create a new shipping module.

could anybody give me some clear guides to creating a new shipping module.

It would help if you could give an idea of what it is you need the shipping module to base the shipping cost on ...

basically the problem is that with the Tare value and with products of differents sizes and weight ,etc.
what i would like to do is add a shipping module similar to that of Ebay, where you have the items price and the shipping and postage shown seperatley.

The Tare is added into the weight in the shipping class ...

The checkout is already broken down by Subtotal, Shipping and Total ...

What is the difference between shipping and postage ...

its kind of the same.

i just want it to show some thing like :
ie.- price: xxxx postage(shipping):yyy

also do you how to change under 'product view' where it says:
shipping weight: x lb(s) to 'shipping weight: x gr(s)

i suppose the coding is very similar to that of OSCommerce, you could say identical almost.
