Remove 'New Products' and display random products

Hello,

I am looking at removing 'new products' from the main page.

I can do this no dramas:

Config --> Index Listing --> Show New Products on Main Page = 0

However then there is a big white space on my main page.

How would I just show a random selection of products on the main page (ie. i'm not going to be having any new products for about 6 months to 1 year)?

Even if I could just change the heading "New Products For November" to "Some Products Below" (and have Show New Products on Main Page = 1) - I guess this would be a workaround if it was possible

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make as many products as you like "featured" and enable the featured products centerbox.

Or change the heading of the New Products centerbox (in the language file) to something of your choice and then make sure that you have the 'New' setting to include all products.

Admin > Configuration > Maximum Values > Limit the New Product Listing to ... and set to 0.

0= All Products
1= Current Month
7= 7 Days
14= 14 Days
30= 30 Days
60= 60 Days
90= 90 Days
120= 120 Days

This will include a random selection of products without the need to set them as featured.

That will work fine as long as you don't also want to use the "new products" functionality at some point.

Hi all, maybe this thread isn't dead..It seems old though!

I really like your workaround suggestion here, my only problem is I cannot find out where this is defined.

I look in includes/languages/english/index.php
and see this

When it says moved to english, what file is it talking about. I just want to change New Products for %s to something like Featured Products.
