Default Database Installation - Access Denied

    re.: zen-cart-v1.3.8a
System FreeBSD rweb7.000025.net Kernel version 6.2-RELEASE-p2
    PHP Version 5.2.10
    MySQL Server version: 4.1.25

    Connection to Database failed
Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

    ...............................................................

    1.
This problem occurs when attempting a first installation of zen-cart.

    2.
cPanel was used to set up:
    (a) MySQL Database;
    (b) A user/password with 'ALL' permissions to that database.

    3.
The database name seems to be correct, because a different error occurs when a "nonsense" database name is inserted.
cPanel did prepend the cPanel logon username to the database name as indicated in the FAQ,
but if the full name is inserted (with the added prefix) the error message indicates that the database name is not recognised.

    ...............................................................

    Any ideas?

Try using your CPanel user and password. If that works, check to see if your hosting account also prepends the CPanel user name to the user name you set up for the DB. Mine does.

    Thank you stevesh!

A very prompt and apposite reply.

Yes, it is the CPanel username and password which is required, as you say.

Furthermore, the database name does include the prefix, as you suggested. I had been led astray by the error messages I was getting when using the MySQL login details - when I was using that login, the prepended name elicited a 'no such database' error, or words to that effect, whereas the name without the prefix did not (not sure why that is).

On to the next hurdle now.

    Thank you again.
