I want to link my site to other sites and vice versa. Do I have to set this up through my zen cart? This is all new to me. But I can't sell or display some of their products until this is done. I don't have a clue on how or where to start this process. Guess this sounds silly to all of you. Please help if you can ! ! !

Doesn't sound silly, but we'll need more information. Who are the people who you're sharing links with? Haven't they given you instructions about how to place their links?
You should know that, in most cases, reciprocal links don't help you with search engines, and they give your visitors an easy way to leave your site.
