help question Help with shipping info

I am using Zen Cart 1.3.8 hosted on a godaddy domain and am a total newbie to this. I am NOT a php programmer - just an html hack who can modify code if someone tells me what to do. That being said I think that what I need can be accomplished through the admin tool without hacking anything but need someone to help point me in the right direction.

My store has 1 product basically, it is available in single packs up to 5 and this has one shipping rate. Then it is also available in case packs of 6 which has a different shipping rate.

Right now I have these set up as two products - singles and case packs.

The problem is for shipping - 1-5 singles ship for $8.50

    1 case ships for $11, 2 for $14.50 etc.

Also if someone orders 4 or more cases I want to give a discount per case.

I'm digging around through the forums and the documentation but also thought I'd ask because some of you might be able to point me to the right place faster than I can find it.

    Thank you in advance!

What happens if I buy 2 cases then buy 3 single packs?

Well 2 cases ship for $14.50 and the single packs would be an additional $8.50

Typically people would not chose this configuration though so I don't really think it's going to be an issue.

You could use the Per Unit perweightunit shipping module ...

This lets you set the Product Weight to be the Shipping Cost ...

Set either the Product Weight or the Attribute Weight to the amount of the shipping cost, 8.50 or 14.50 ...

In the Shipping/Packaging, set the Maximum Weight to: 5000 and set the two Tare Rates to: 0:0 ...

Now, based on quantity, you will have qty x 8.50 and/or qty x 14.50 for your shipping costs ...

Once you have that working, then some thought can be given to the discount on cases of 4 or more ...

It would be of help if you could spell out the discount a bit more ...

Also, if you could confirm that the products_id for the Case is separate from the products_id for the Single packs would be helpful ...

Yes product ID for single pack is separate from case pack.

Shipping charges for case packs is as follows:

    1 case - $11
    2 cases - $14.50
    3 cases - $18.50
    4 cases - $20.45
    5 cases - $24.00
    6 cases - $25.00
    7 cases - $26.00
    8 cases - $28.00
    9-10 cases - $29.00
    11-15 cases - $29.50

See confusing. I also have to figure out price discounts based on quantity but though I could do that with discounts or coupons or something?

UGH - this is getting to be more complicated than I wanted.

If I order 6 singles ... is that a case?

Or are they only cases if I order cases?

You say you have 1 Product ... do you literally mean 1 Product sold either as a single or as a case?

Well 6 singles would technically be a case but if you order them that way the shopping cart will not give you the discount.

I have 1 product but 2 id's - singles have one product id and cases have another. But yes a case is 6 singles - same product.
