As I suspected, you have a Template Monster template, which has removed the ability to change left column width or probably any admin setting. You may be able to find the code they have deleted and restore it from a stock copy of /includes/templates/template_default/common/tpl_main_page.php. There might be other files involved - nobody likes debugging TM templates.
