AH... I was typing my last reply when you posted this.

Yes... you do have a SEO mod installed, because that is not a ZC standard feature in the Configuration menu

These SEO modules are not really needed anymore as SE's can index dynamic sites very efficiently now.

You may have a bit of a drop-back as Google (and the others) will have indexed your html urls.

But get busy with the SitemapsXML and use your SE webmaster dashboards to invite the SE's to re-index.

Where's Melanie??? [mprough]... What's the right thing to do here Mel? (she will know the answer).

Thanks Schoolboy for all your efforts.

I never installed this so am I right to set the Enable SEO url to False. Will this make the c-html urls go away -sorry for the lack of technical language. Then in time Google will index the new urls, including my homepage?

Finally, you say invite the SE's to reindex - does this mean going into Google Webmaster and doing what?

Where is this Melanie when you need her??

    Thanks

If you have a Google "Account" (the "sign in" link at the very top right of Google home page)...

... you can "install" into your account a whole host of extra google tools and services.

One of the most important is the Webmaster Dashboard, because it is here that you tell google where your XML sitemaps are, and invite them to come and index them. You also use this "dashboard" to keep track of what Google is doing with your XML sitemaps and you can react to any error reports google generates.

Google like this way of doing things because it likes the efficiency of it, and if you work closely with the SE's, providing such efficiency, your site gets a little more attention (because the SE's are following a MAP, not floundering in the dark)... So its very good for SEO.

Yahoo and MSN have similar features for webmasters.

The SE's use XMLSitemaps that must conform to the required convention (sitemaps.org), so this is where Andrew Berezin's XML-SITEMAPS comes into play... It generates the proper formats.

Default Why have I got 2 homepages?

    Hi

I have searched hi and low for an answer, but with no luck.

    I have 2 homepages:

    www. ethicalpartybags .com

    and

    www. ethicalpartybags . com/-c-.html

I've not shown the links as I do not want Google to index this and confuse it even further, as it seems to think the latter one is my homepage and so does not index the first one.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Matt

I would assume that this is a remnant from an old site listing and will fall off in due time

As the domain was registered Creation date: 02 Jan 2007

    Hi

The domain is nearly 3 years old, but I recently launched my new Zencart website (3 weeks ago) and so is from this new site. do you think google thinks this is my homepage?

    Thanks

Definitely a problem with whatever URL modification tool you've added. Not only has it produced a bad link on your site, but the addon also can't properly handle a bad URL ... at the very least if the supplied category number is blank, it should go to the home page, not to a blank page.

    Thanks

You are right as I have realised that the version of Zen Cart that my host uploaded had "Ultimate SEO" added. When I first started playing around with it I must have enabled it as I thought it would be a good idea. So when I launched my new site about 3 weeks ago Google indexed all the changed urls and has failed to find the correct ones. As a result the site does not even appear when I search by the name of the site (well I do get some of my old site pages which I built in Dreamweaver).

So what should I do? I have now disabled the SEO add-on (reading the forums it seems an awful add-on which causes endless problems).

Will Google eventually pick up the correct pages?

Should I submit the site to be reconsidered by Google (giving reasons)?

Will the "Ultimate SEO" generated pages eventually go from Google? I'm still concerned as when you click on the www ethicalpartybags com-c-.html the incorrect homepage still appears!

    Look forward to your advice.

    Thanks

    Matt
