install.php not starting, only getting blank screen

Hi, after I have followed the instructions regarding file permissions and renaming configure.php, I try to launch the installation process.

I get no error message, only a blank screen.

It is a web hosting package on an apache server.

I have double checked permissions, that all files were uploaded properly and also tested techsupp.php which is working fine from the same catalog as install.php.

Also tried the debug alternative by DrByte, but assume it wont have any effect on this issue as nothing is installed and this debug tool is for blank pages in an operating store?

Hint 1 -- Remove all files uploaded and reload them without modifying anything
Hint 2 -- There is no need to change any file permissions or rename ANY files in order to install Zen Cart
Hint 3 -- If the files were uploaded to the root directory, simply entering www.yoursite.com will present you with several options. One of those is to install Zen Cart. If you prefer. www.yoursite.com/zc_install will take you directly to the install.

Hint 2 -- There is no need to change any file permissions or rename ANY files in order to install Zen Cart

No FILE permissions need changing before an install and while dbltoe is technically correct in saying that no folders need permission changing BEFORE an install, some need permission changing AFTER the install (images, html define pages, etc).

Then there is the question of dist_configure.php (2 of them) needing changing to configure.php BEFORE the install.

But BLANK SCREENS at this stage usually mean bad uploads and corrupted files.

Make sure you have a GOOD FTP PROGRAM (avoid anything that has a whiff of "Microsoft" in the name).

Alright, reloaded the files, and only changed the names of configure.php and then it seems to be working.

I respectfully submit that no file requires changing or renaming if the zc_install is used. The install creates the configure.php from your input during the install.

It's some time since I did a conventional "install", as I usually work with "clones" of the scores of sites I have in my archive.
