Paypal Payments Coming in But NOT the Orders

I've now received two Paypal Payments, but the zen admin shows no orders. I've had to contact the customers. It is recording the customer information, but not the order. The first customer was new and the second one was a repeat. Neither one had order information for today's order. I haven't changed any Paypal Module settings. I haven't been in the Payment Modules at all. Something is not right. Help!

If you're using PayPal IPN / Website Payments Standard, then your store relies on waiting for PayPal's server to tell your server that they've received the payment. If PayPal's servers are backlogged or delayed for some reason, or if the communications from their server to yours has been broken by something you or your hosting company has done ... then ... you'll not get the orders released in your store.

Express Checkout doesn't have that problem.

Thanks, I switched to Express Checkout and it seems to be working fine now.

What kind of thing could break this out of interest. I have just installed the CEON URI mapping module on my store and I am now having the same problem. Is this possible. I am also using standard payments from PayPal however. Am also in the same position as Christy as above. Could you help me?

For PayPal's server to talk to *your* server, it must have unrestricted access to your ipn_main_handler.php file. If you've got any .htaccess rewrite rules which interrupt that file from being accessed directly, then you've broken PayPal's ability to activate your orders.

DrByte, I have a similar problem but reversed - I get the orders and confirmation, but no payment record either at Paypal or the cart. I set debug mode on and got
Order Conformation No. 4
[NEW ORDER] Order Confirmation No. 4
[EXTRA CC ORDER info] #4

Now I bought this myself with my own credit card, and so I also received my custom header receipt, as though everything had worked. But there is no payment record and my card was not charged. My attempt to buy a download also failed (pending) and no download link was given. All the codes I can find seem correct. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds exactly as though you've actually paid by using the Offline Credit Card module instead of by PayPal.
If you don't have a merchant account (agreement with your bank to accept credit cards online), then you need to click Remove on the Offline Credit Card module, because you cannot use it.

I have had this happen several times only with one customer. After checking and checking it only happens when she pays through paypal with her credit card but does not login to her paypal account. She also closed the window for the store and paypal without waiting to be redirected back as she was going to download the products later. When she does this the order is paid for through paypal and I get the advice from paypal. The order however sits in zencart as still in her cart and we do not get a notification. I had other customers the same day without a paypal account and all was good so it is purely either her closing windows or an error as she has a paypal account but chooses on occasion not to use it.
My workaround was to install the mod to login as a customer. She knows now to login to paypal but if she forgets and I get a payment come through for her and no order I login to her account and process the order using a coupon so the order gets processed and she gets her downloads and I get my order notification.
It is a pain but she is a valued customer lol
I could not find any other solution to the problem. I have added wording to the store saying not to close the browser until your order is processed or you will not receive your links and will need to contact us.
