Default How to set up products that have different shipping and product weights?

I've searched Google and the FAQ section and I can't seem to come up with any answers.

I'm trying to set up products that have different product and shipping weights. For instance, Product A's product weight may be 1lb, but the shipping weight may be 2lbs.

In Categories/Products (edit product) I can set the shipping weight. Where would I add the product weight? And how would I set up the different product and shipping weights for a product. For instance, Product A may have 3 different sizes (1lb, 2lbs, 3lbs) with 3 different shipping weights (2lbs, 4lbs, 5lbs).

How and where would I go about configuring my products in this manner?

    Thanks guys!

There is no such thing. You can only specify one weight and this can be the product weight or the shipping weight. However, this weight is used to calculate the shipping price.

If you have a different product weight, you can always add this to your product description, if you think this information is useful to your customers.

If that's the case, it sounds like I will have to create a new product for each product weight and associate the different shipping weights with each one.

    Does this sound right?

    Thanks.

There's also a 'tare' setting in Admin - Configuration - Shipping/Packaging you might be able to fiddle with, especially if you're adding (or can add) the same extra weight for each product.

Failing that, you might want to set up the different weights as attributes.

Even if I set up different product weights as different attributes, I still can't set different shipping weights for each different attribute, correct?

I haven't done so, but there is a 'weight' box in the attributes controller.

I saw that, but is this product weight or shipping weight? I think it's product weight, right?

And if so, I still have the problem of creating different shipping weights for each product weight.

The weight input (the bit that goes in the database) is used to calculate shipping costs when weight is the determinant for shipping.

So, you want this accurate for getting shipping calculations correct. In this case, you have to have your shipping weight in this field.

The only options are to either add a NEW field to the product table that you can add this other weight too, or just mention it in the product dcescription text.

There is a thread that show how to add additional fields to the product table.

The field you're referring to... is this the weight field in Attributes Controller or on the Edit Product page?

When you ADD / EDIT a product using the standard zencart product add/edit screen, the second-last input field is:

    Products Shipping Weight:

That is what governs the shipping calculations.

Sure... later on if you add attributes to the product, and a certain option VALUE increases the weight, then that extra weight will simply be added onto the "base product" weight.

    So (for example)...

I sell shoes, in SMALL, MEDIUM and LARGE

SMALL is the default weight at 1LB (which I have inserted into the PRODUCT EDIT screen), so if a customer chooses SMALL, no additional weight is added to the product if that size is chosen.

But Medium and Large shoes are heavier, so my attributes will add that extra weight:

SMALL (nothing added to the attribute) = 1LB (default)
MEDIUM (0.25LB added to the attribute) = 1.25LB
SMALL (0.75LB added to the attribute) = 1.75LB

Of course you could have the DEFAULT weight set to 0LB... then, the ATTRIBUTES would have to be:

SMALL (1LB added to the attribute) = 1LB
MEDIUM (1.25LB added to the attribute) = 1.25LB
SMALL (1.75LB added to the attribute) = 1.75LB
