    Default Newbie questions

    First...
Is GoDaddy a good host for Zen? I have read both good and not so good.

    Second...
I am selling glassware by the dozen and my price is the dozen price. I want to add... Dz. or Sold by Dz. to my products. How can this be done without adding it to the product name or description? Can it be bulleted out?

If you want to spend half your life tearing your hair out and the other half asking us on the forum for answers to your problems, then yes... GD is a good choice!

Yes... quite easy to configure in Zencart. There are a number of methods.

    bug Re: Newbie questions

GD (WildWest) is good for other server services... not for Zencart. I had others recommend some and went with one that until today has had excellent service. (in process of a server issue - parse times went from .1/.2 to 33./120. !)

GD also has some other meanings, and when used in conjunction with Zencart - take on a whole new meaning...

    Good luck.

    Best benchmark is PRICE...

CHEAP hosting is usually NASTY as well. Cheap has to be made cost effective, so cheap hosting means 20 trillion sites on one server, antiquated server software, poor maintenance and shaky support.

You MUST take e-commerce seriously (unless you're getting into it as a hobby).

My hosts (currently with more than 50 sites hosted) have never given me a day's trouble in 6 years on any of the sites I host with them.

Their support is 100% and they are very reasonably priced.

I do everything through them... SSL, daily backups, virus watching, hack watching...

As I said - 6 years without a glitch on any of the sites...

I choose a cheap host initially (they host 65000+ sites)

When I wanted to add SSL they said that they do not deliver this anymore.

Watch out with super cheap hosters, cause what you get is what you pay for!

Like Schoolboy mentioned, take your shop serious. There are numerous issues on this forum with bad hosters, like unexpected upgrade to php 5.3 without communication, no back-ups, few hack prevention.

If one of the other sites on your shared server (VM) is hacked, it is a piece of cake for hackers to reach your site and data. Then you possibly regret your 2 box savings a month.

I shoudn't have said this - Murphy's Law came into play. My server has been down all day with RAID problems

Well ... six years and just one glitch (so far) isn't a bad track record.
