If I put this syntax, <br />, in my top level categories name will that affect anything (ie, functionality)? Will it validate?

I have a few top level categorie names that are somewhat long (2 and 3 words) and I need to shorten the space they take up so that everything fits.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
