Spreadsheet style product select template

Is there a template or addin that would provide a product page that would have items displayed in a "list" or "spreadsheet" type format with each item having a Quantity box that when a number is entered an "Add to Cart" action would be automatically done, with ajax or javascript, allowing the customer to continue selecting items on the page without a page reload or redirect to another page?

What happens when a customer accidentally enters a number larger than he wants and that is added to the cart? The standard admin settings allow this functionality:
Configuration > Product Listing >
Display Product Add to Cart Button (0=off; 1=on; 2=on with Qty Box per Product) > set to 0
Display Multiple Products Qty Box Status and Set Button Location > set to 1, 2 or 3

Customers can add as many numbers as they want on the page, and they are all finally added when the button is clicked. Until then, they can be adjusted.

You make a good point! I was really trying to establish if I could actually do a "list" type product page for a site where the traditional cart Product approach is not desired, but all the remaining functionality of the cart is.

Are you wanting a grid display instead of one product per row? For that, you can use the Column Layout Grid mod in Free Addons. You can strip down the individual product output as much as you want in the listing.

A grid may be a good future choice, but for now a simple row based layout with image, description,quantity, unit price and total cost(dynamically updated) per row is my goal. Then at the bottom of the page is a subtotal(again dynamically updated) and a single "Add to Cart" button that will process all items that have a quantity specified. I can do the dynamic cost updates in javascript if that feature isn't available. What's most important is to have the basic "row" layout module/code available so I don't have to create it.

How do you mean "available"? You can modify /includes/modules/your_template/product_listing.php if you want something beyond the standard functionality.
For adding javascript, see the tutorials and wiki for best practices and use of built-in organization.

By available, I meant "is currently part of the standard cart" or is there a contribution/addon that implements the "Row" display as I described.

There is nothing immediately available that has dynamically updating totals in the product listing. You said you could do the javascript required, so there is very little to add to the standard product listing beyond that - just a variable output to show the total. You would probably need to wrap some divs with classes around various parts of the "price" case in product_listing.php, to allow desired formatting of the display.

You may want to look at Chrome's Dynamic Price Updater for the product info page for an example of working dynamic code.
