help question Editing Settings Not Working

I'm trying to edit some settings for a new Zen Cart install and am having trouble.

Specifically, it applies to at least Configuration->Layout Settings and Tools->Layout Boxes Controller

I select a row to edit, change it and click Update, and it takes me back to the main admin page.

Here is an example sequence of events:

    Log in to the admin

    Click Configuration->Layout Boxes Cotroller (http://www.myzencartsite.com/admin/l...controller.php)
    Click the (e) icon for sideboxes/search_header.php (http://www.myzencartsite.com/admin/l...71&action=edit)
Change Single Column Status from ON to OFF
    Click Update (http://www.myzencartsite.com/admin/l...rch_header.php)

I am taken back to the main admin page (http://www.myzencartsite.com/admin/index.php)

I navigate back in, and the setting has not changed.

The only odd thing that has happened with this install is that its root and its admin directory name have changed from their original locations. I have modified both the catalog and admin configure.php files to point them to the correct paths.

I have included below information regarding the installation:
    Server OS: Linux 2.6.28.9
    Server Date: 11/30/2009 23:24:33
    Server Up Time: 23:24:33 up 3 days, 17 min, 0 users, load average: 1.91, 1.85, 1.95
    PHP Version: 5.2.9 (Zend: 2.2.0)
PHP Memory Limit: 64M PHP Safe Mode: Off
    PHP File Uploads: On
Max Size: 64M POST Max Size: 64M

    Database: MySQL 5.1.30
    Database Date: 11/30/2009 23:24:33
    HTTP Server: Apache/2.2.11 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.11 OpenSSL/0.9.8i DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635
    Database Data Size: 237 kB
    Database Index Size: 348 kB

    Zen Cart 1.3.8a
    Patch: 1::
    Database Patch Level: 1.3.8
    v1.3.8 [2009-09-13 20:36:08] (Fresh Installation)

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening? I have tried changing the search_header value in the database directly and it doesn't seem to be updated on the site.

Did this work correctly before you attempted to relocate things?

I don't know - I just received the site to work on, and hadn't needed to do anything in the admin prior to moving its directory.

Unfortunately that is not an option, there is no backup from prior to the directory move... thanks for the thought though.

The inability to save admin settings is a classic symptom of improperly applying the June 2009 admin security patch, including, but not limited to, making edits to the NON-ADMIN version of html_output.php, contrary to installation instructions, or skipping the changes altogether for unknown reasons.

Thanks. This is a clean install, no updates have been applied. Since I know that I have modified configure.php in the admin includes section, is there something in there that could also cause this?

    Alright.

You seem adamant that the site is pristinely pure but somehow it's not working.

So ... let's prove it. Analyze every file and report every difference: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.p...Obscure_Issues

Then, if by some miracle every file is exactly the same as the original Zen Cart files, install another new copy of Zen Cart (from a freshly downloaded zip of original files) in another folder+database on the same server, and tell us whether *that* install works fine.

    Thanks DrByte, you were correct.

Diff showed the culprit - it wasn't a changed file, it was an unchanged file.

Apparently before I was involve with this site someone indeed did try to apply the June 2009 security update.

They did not apply the html_output.php change at all, though the new files from the update were present.

I have made a backup of the site as of this moment should anything further arise.

I appreciate your time in assisting me resolve this problem. Thank you very much.

    Regards,

    Scott
