    Default Gave up, started over, now install question

    I gave up trying to solve a wrong password problem. I removed all Zen-Cart files, and reinstalled from scratch.
    I made all file attribute changes as required. I got to the point in the installation where the installer checked the status on the server. I got all green checkmarks, except for three lines;

    PHP API Mode = cgi-fcgi
    Register Globals = ON
    PHP Output Buffering (gzip) = OFF

    The first line suggests that the setting is not recommended. The second line says security is better if globals are OFF. The third line has no "more info," so it is warning me, but no further information.

    I've looked through the literature, and I see nothing about how to resolve these issues. Can some kind sole show me where/how I make the changes necessary so these warnings are resolved?

    I have no experience with PHP, so I am somewhat lost.

    Unless I'm mistaken, these are all warnings rather then errors. You should be able to complete the installation without any problems.

    The PHP API Mode is something you have no control over (unless running your own server).

    The Register globals is a security issue, but a lot of older software and modules won't work correctly if you set it to "Off".

    The gzip output buffering relates to performance. It is best to leave this one alone unless you know what you are doing, because enabling it (if possible) can actually make things worse if the data is being gzipped by other means.

    Cheers

    Zen Cart prefers Register-Globals to be OFF, for security reasons, as the help text indicates.

    All of those settings are handled by your server administrator. While Zen Cart may install and run for you, it would still be advisable to have the server administrator make appropriate changes for you if possible.
