Filter Results by: (Questions for Configuring)

I have two products in the same category. When I click on that category, I get a strange search box that says 'Filter Results by:' and then has a drop down menu that goes from A-Z and 1-10.

I've never seen this before...

Where do I go to customize this search box? I'd like to filter the results by Author or eBook format instead. Is there a way to do this?

And, it looks like there is waaay too much space between the wording and the actual search box next to it. Is there a way to pull this space out or re-align things a bit to make it look better?

You'd have to go into the code to change the format, but you can turn it off in Admin - Configuration - Product Listing - Include Product Listing Alpha Sorter Dropdown

Okay, thank you. I just turned it off. We really don't need it.

I turned the 'Include Product Listing Alpha Sorter Dropdown' to off but now no products are displayed although the category shows that 3 items are listed. These items are only displayed under 'New Products For December'. I just want to display all the products on one page with no filter options... please advise :)
