Help! Nothing is updating in my admin

When I try to make changes in any section of the admin, it just takes me back to the main admin page without saving any changes. Specifically, I was trying to make changes to the paypal payment module, but I tested it on other areas of the admin and nothing is saving.

I don't know how long it's been like this. I did try to install the security patches a few weeks back and they were messing things up so I reverted back to my saved files and decided to just get the site up and running for now as I am helping out a friend and it has taken forever and then go back and deal with the security patch later.

hi madeaux i have this problem this morning, cannot seem to find any answer

i installed security patches couple wks ago and renamed admin and it was ok for couple wks until this morning when one file got corrupted and when i fixed this file then it stopped working

This is quite a common complaint. It relates to the incorrect installation of the June 2009 security patches. Usually it is because the file html_output.php didn't get over-written like it is supposed to.

I will also suggest that your store has actually been broken since you installed the security patches, it is just that you didn't notice the problem until now,

hey rod re-installed the security patch and all is working now... now i have to back track to see where these files got corrupted

Ok -
I installed the security patch and changed the name of the admin folder. All was well for about 5 minutes. My admin was updating!!! Then all of a sudden I can't pull up any pages in the admin. I go to check out the site and I can't even pull up the home page, it gives a 500 internal server error... what on earth happened?

Check the install of the Security Patches it sounds like you have mixed up the html_output.php for the Catalog and Admin ... they are different and this is a symptom of mixing them up ...

If I mixed up files, would it have worked for 5 minutes after I did it?

I am pretty certain I put it in the right place, but how would I be able to tell if I did not?

Compare the files with the original files with something such as Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com ...

This should help you find if there is a file that is incorrect ...

If you are unable to touch any file in either the Catalog or the Admin of your site, you may want to check with your hosting provider for additional help to see if there is a server issue ...
