Downloadable Product - Forces extra step in check out...

Greetings... I'm loving Zen Cart... However, I'm having one issue that annoys me. We are preparing to upload numerous new downloadable books, tricks and tutorials.

In order to connect a product to a download, it appears as if we have to create name/value attributes... However, when it is done, the download product shows up in the shopping cart withOUT an add to cart until you are within the specific product page (or if searching or looking in list mode, "add") which WOULD make adding many little vids easy... instead of having to open up each specific product page.

Is this just the way it has to be? Is there a way to make the add option appear like other non-downloadable products when in list or other modes? It's a real bummer and time killer for folks wanting to order a few dozen clips...

I should have said that the downloads do not have options in reality, but I've been forced to create options "pdf" or "mp4", etc. That is fine and the customer does not have to "pick" it, but HAVING any option at all seems to cause the weird extra click to purchase issue. WHY can't I choose to offer a download with no options? Thanks!

If each of your downloadable products has only a single attribute (and it looks like they do), you might try the suggestion that DrByte provided for this case:

awesome find... however, his last post say that now his product info does not show up... it seems close. I'm just shocked there is not a more common fix to this. I'm certain with pdfs, movies, e-books, etc, there should be TONS of people trying to do the same thing here. No options to pick, downloadable product and BUY or ADD appears without selection and more info screen (still there but not required to click to ADD to cart).

I suggest you try what was posted. It is very likely that the person who said something isn't else isn't showing up as expected ... has done something *else* to break the page.
