Default Customers entering info twice with PayPal Website Payments Standard?

    Hi all,

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I did several searches of this forum and didn't find an answer.

I am looking into setting up PayPal Website Payments Standard on my Zen Cart site, to allow customers to pay with credit cards. My question is, when it's enabled, will customers have to enter their billing/shipping address and credit card info twice when checking out? What I'm reading here in the FAQ seems to indicate this:

PayPal Website Payments Standard (formerly referred to as "PayPal IPN" in older versions of Zen Cart) takes the customer to PayPal's site AFTER the ENTIRE checkout in order to make payment.
I assume and hope that I'm wrong, but from everything I'm reading it seems like the flow would go like this:

    1) Customer adds a product to their cart on my site.

    2) Customer clicks Go to Checkout on my site.

    3) Customer enters their Address details on my site, and clicks continue.

    4) Customer enters their Credit Card info on my site, and clicks continue.

    5) Customer reviews the details of their order, and clicks Submit.

    6) THEN the customer is taken to PayPal's site, where they can choose to pay with either their PayPal account, or their credit card, at which point they enter their address and credit card info AGAIN, then finally submit the order, and are then taken back to my site for my "Thanks for your order!" screen.

I hope someone can tell me that I'm completely wrong about that. Once I install and configure the PayPal Website Payment Standards module in Zen Cart, do steps 3 through 5 magically vanish from my site? I don't mind it if customers are directed off my site temporarily to enter their info on PayPal to complete the transaction, I just don't want them to have to do it twice, once on my own site (serving no purpose at all) and then again on PayPal's site.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Many thanks!

I am new to Zen and having the same problem. The only billing info being passed to Paypal is Name & email, no address, zip ect...

I am using the Standard Paypal since Using xpress rewuires a Paypal account.

My other problem is if the user pays on Paypal and does not use the continue buttons to return to my site then the order disappears and is never saved.

Anyone have any ideas on this? Anybody have this same configuration set up (PayPal Website Payments Standard) and can tell me how many times a customer has to enter their billing and credit card information when checking out? Thanks!

Yes, with Standard and even Express, you're wrong about step 4, as that part doesn't happen on your site in those cases.

    Did you even try it?

Thanks for your confirmation that I was worrying needlessly!

I hadn't tried it yet because I didn't want to have my client go through the entire procedure of getting his bank account online, opening a PayPal account, verifying the account, etc., if the end result was going to be as clunky as I was imagining it. I'm glad to hear that it won't be. Thanks again!
