Default How to copy a site exactly to a new domain?

    Hello fellow Zenners!

I was just wondering if a predicament of mine is possible to fix. I have a fully functional and operation zen cart website that has been customized to my liking with looks and feel and everything.

I want to copy everything I've done to a new domain for a new website, but change things up a little bit because I like the look and feel of the site. Basically, no domain forwarding or anything just work off all the effort of this site to form the new one.

I still want to keep my current one going without any issue, and want a duplicate, settings and all for the new site which I can then fix and edit to suit the new products.

Is this as easy as a simple copy and paste from the FTP of my original site to the ftp of my new site? Or am I not thinking hard enough on this one?

Thanks for any and all help received!

Copying / moving a site is relatively straight-forward and should not take more than a couple of hours to do (if that).

Essentially there are TWO main components to copy or "clone"

    1. The files (php, other code files, images)
    2. The database

    1. is the easier bit as it's simply a case of FTP an entire copy of all the files and folders in your original site - firstly to a local drive, and then to the new server.

    2. Is more detailed, but basically involves the copying of the database, and using that "copy" to "populate" a fresh database at the new location.

There is very little "code editing" to do. The most important edits are made to the configure.php files - as these two files are the gateways to the site's location, directory path structure, and database.

There are a couple of minor technical operations to perform (fixing the cache directory location), but these are quick and simple.

There is a FAQ/Tutorial on how to move/copy a site.

(I have completed the entire procedure in under 30 minutes).

Thank you very much! I looked and couldn't find anything and I must still be looking for the wrong words or phrases. Any chance you could post the link?

Thanks so much for your help!
