Your homepage image is 780px wide, and .centerColumn has 0.8em (approximately 8px) padding. So it takes a minimum of 796px for the center column (actually 798px), while #mainWrapper is set to 970px. This leaves 172px for #navColumnOne (actual display 171px).

Oh my gosh! I guess that's the one bad thing about Web Developer. I use it to find out the width, but it does not account for padding.
Thank you so much for figuring this out. I was driving myself crazy.
