Can not get template to work

Hello all; I'm new to Zen Cart; and I just installed it onto the server and I'm trying to get it to run with the template.

I've made the custom template and followed the directions that I have found on here.

But after uploading it to the site the changes; and going into tools to make the change........... I just get a WHITE SCREEN and it won't load the store.

PLEASE HELP.

I'm using Zen Cart 1.3.8a

And I have been searching the forums and FAQ's for hours and I'm just more lost and confused than I was before. My folders look like

/templates
copied the template files from template_default
/css
stylesheet.css
/common
copied the common files from template_default
/sideboxes
copied the sidebox files from template_default

Its really really messed UP but its working again....... gonna try to get the custom template to work now..... and hopefully the debugger will get it at least working.

Often a blank page is caused by an error in the php. Check the files you changed. If you've done your override correctly, it's simple enough to start over and go over what you've done one step at a time.

~laughs my ######## off~ OMG..... yeha i did the over ride right; but one of the lines in my index.php had the word

shouldn't in it

and that was causing a T String error....... the debugger pointed it out and after a lot of time i figured it out its working now!!!! hehehe THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
