I have a question, is there any chance to have the hit counter, count only unique hits instead of every single hit, by flipping through the pages.???
Thanks

The hit counter counts both and is displayed on the Admin home page with both values for the past 10 days by default ...![]()

Hi Linda. Does that mean that if my 'Counter for the past 10 Days' lists for 01/12/2010 1216 - 1379 that I had 1216 unique visitors and 1379 page hits? If not, what do the numbers mean? If these numbers don't indicate unique visitors at all, is there a place that displays the number of unique visitors? Thank you.
George
Yes, it means that you have had 1216 unique visitors (based on new sessions) and 1379 page hits ...
You should also find there are stats in your domain Control Panel that might give additional information ...

And, for the newbe here - where do I find the hit counter on admin - and can I display this on my site for all to see?
When you first login to your Admin there is a stats page on the index ...
The counter is located there ... it shows the last 10 entrees in the counter_history ...
The current hits are in the counter table ... that contains the startdate counter total to date ...
If you want to display this count on your catalog you can get this information from the table and added to your site ...

Why do you think it's important to customers to see how many hits your store is getting? Most experts I've read suggest that such information is counter-productive, and (don't take this the wrong way) makes the site smell of amateurishness.
Maybe you have very good reason for displaying it, but if it's just for your own reference, that's why it's available in the admin. If it's for ego-stroking, that's the wrong motive. If it's because you have a legitimate reason for people who cannot access your admin to be able to see the hit traffic, then feel free to proceed.
Just be sure you have a calculated reason. Otherwise it might be a counter-productive move.
Just sharing a tip to help steer in the right direction ;)
