Discounted Gift Certificates?

Hi,

Is it possible to sell Gift Certificates at discount price? For instance a value of $50.00 gift certificate to be sold for $30.00?

How do I set this up if it is possible?

Because of how Gift Certificates work, being "cash" that can be purchased by 1 person and used by another, they are designed to not be discounted ...

You would have to customize your code to work around this feature as there are too many ways to use Gift Certificates and Discounts to end up where you actually pay the customer to shop in your store ...

Thanks for replying. I guess the best way to go about this using the available modules is just to create a product worth $25.00 then when purchased, send a gift certificate worth $50.00.

Gift certificates are great because there seems to be no expiry and so the customer can use it through the year sort of like prepaying for products that maybe available in the future.

The problem I have on this though is that there are products in my store that cannot be bought as a discount so therefore I have to put restrictions on the gift certificate which right now is not an available feature.

Which brings me back to just issuing a discount coupon instead worth $50.00 however customer can only use this one time, right? It does not function like a gift certificate where if customer only uses $10.00, they can use the balance in the future?

Just wondering if there is way around this, using modules already available rather than having to change codes...

Correct, Discount Coupons do not carry the balance forward. But if the discount you want to give is always 50%, you could use an unlimited coupon (no limit on the times it can be used ) but, you can limit the products it can be used on.

I use 5.291 cart, I would like to offer my clients the ability to buy a book of ten items at a discount. They would pay once and would then buy individual items later- as they need them. the price will be deducted from their account balance.

I offer classes in a club. and i'm triying to ############## a system we have now where clients pay in advance for ten lessons and get a discount on the price - Every time they purchase a class the amount of the class gets deducted from their account.

It will work like a GIFT certificate, but sold at a discount. Since discounting a gift certificat dosn't work, what other options do I have.?
