Is there a feature to allow showing similar products to my customers?

I have come here in regards to customizing my personal Zen cart.

I need a way to show similar products to the product currently being viewed by my customer. Is there some kind of feature that allows this?

also, I notice that disabled products are still being displayed in the featured products box. This is definitely an issue that needs to be resolved.

I have much programming experience, and as such should have no problem getting in and editing things myself, as long as someone can point me in the right direction.
