I'm trying to set up shipping to use Table Rates (I've set up several different Tables, based on the location from which the buyer is making the purchase).
For shipments of up to 2 pounds, the cost is $10. For shipments of 3 to 4 pounds, the cost is $12. For shipments of 5 to 6 pounds, the cost is $13. For shipments of 7 pounds and up, the cost is $15.
All of the products, except for 1 product, can be put into one box and shipped based on these Tables. This all works great.
However, I have 1 product that is so large, that it must be shipped in 2 boxes. For this 1 product, I would like to charge $20 for shipping.
So, what I need to be able to do is to charge a Flat Rate for 1 product, but charge the Weight-based Table Rate charges for all of the other products.
I tried using the Attributes, and this does work - add $5.00 to this 1 product, as a "2 Box Shipping" fee. However, this shows up as an increase in the price of the product, rather than an increase in the cost of shipping. While the end result is the same, physchologically it is not - people will think that they're paying more for this product from this source, as compared to other sources that do not add this extra $5 onto the price of the product (but those sources do increase the shipping cost). It's amazing how so many people ignore the 'total price' (products plus shipping) and base their purchases only on the product price (and often ignore the shipping costs).
So, is this possible? Is it possible to use a different shipping calculation/method for one product, but use a different shipping/calculation method for other products, all on the same order?
John
