Maybe i am not making my self clear as to what i dont understand. To add a download attribut to a product., the question is do you make a NEW download attribute named download for EACH new product?

Am I to understand that each item being sold has its own download attribute attached to the file associated with it.

    Im thinking:

    product #1
ATTRIBUTE #1 option name: download, option value: zip file, sort order:10
    file: bravenewworld.zip

    product #2
ATTRIBUTE #2 option name: download, option value: zip file, sort order:11
    file: greencityjeep.zip

    Product #3
ATTRIBUTE #3 option name: download, option value: zip file, sort order:12
    file: rogerrabbit.zip

    IS this the correct way?

I will be so happy when i get this been going for a few days trying to make it clear and I am not dumb just not use to the way this system is set up.

Ok followed prodedure and got red dot next to file.
Is the file I uploaded through my ftp suppose to be loaded to
www.mystore.com/download? because that is where i put the zip files. I can't seem to find a folder that is called CATALOG/that has a download folder.

Also is an XML file treated as a zip or is that another ATTRIBUTE..

Default Ready to throw in the towel

Ok community, Listen after several days of trying to set up downloads reading hundreds of posting in the forum, reading the FAQ/Tutorials and having people throw the download link back in my face over and over I am at wits ends. First off who ever wrote the only TWO download links certainly was a ZENNED not thinking about the begginer and merely trying to build themselves up. I say this because for one it leaves alot to question. I was questioning does every item you sell need and attribute or not? Finally after reading all that I have read I see the answer is NO. Just one needed. Second there is a posting that walks you through the set up process that says upload from your FTP to the download folder, yet in the end if you don't get the Green dot you have not uploaded to the CATALOG/DOWNLOAD so where does the uploaded product really go?? and where is the CATALOG/DOWNLOAD folder at. You may know but the begginer doesnt and it should not be assumed he does when writing a tutorial. How about adding the what if it does not come out as planned, check this and that. All the document says it "that means you have not uploaded to you Catalog/download, wow I downloaded to my download file as instructed. So like I said after 5 days of this and no sleep, totally worked up and really aggitated I felt the need to ASK one more time if anyone has time to really explain the download process. I have had all the one line links that I can muster here. I am going to describe exactly the steps I have taken. Hopefully someone can see if there is an error that I may have overlooked (in all that reading which is beyond me). You will see I read by the way I explain the following: First thing I did was start with just 3 products. I went to the CATEGORY tab and entered a new category. Then I put 3 new product in that category. I then went and uploaded via ftp 3 zip files to my /download/ file for my site. as this is what the tutorials explained as I understood it. I then went to the OPTION NAME MANAGER, I created an option and called it DOWNLOAD FILE, I chose a RADIO button and hit insert. I then went to the OPTION VALUE and typed in ZIP FILE and hit insert. After which time I went to the ATTRIBUTE CONTROLLER and it brought up a page which listed the 3 product I had already made in the category. I highlighted one of the products and hit display. I scrolled down and highlighted Download and moved over and highlighted Zip File. I scrolled down further and Yellow Box...Used for display purposes...NO Blue Box...Attribute is free when product is Free....YES ........Orange Box..Default Attribute to be marked selected..NO (<<tried both ways yes and No)....... Pink Box...Apply Discounts..YES Purple Box..Include in Base Price etc...YES......Red Box...Attribute reqd for Text..NO....I then named the file exactly as the name listed in my download file with no capital letters, no hypens simplys (abcde.zip) and then I got a red dot saying file invalid when i hit insert. I have tried this OVER AND OVER and OVER with all the info I have read. So tell me what have I done wrong with the information provided to me. PLEASE. I can not spend days on end just to get not one product in. I did not make the system so I do not know how it works other than to follow the only directions made available to me, which I believe I have as you can see from the explanations above. Any help at this point is welcomed because like I said its time to let go and find another system if this does not pan out. P.S I do thank those that contributed and hopefully a fully zenned person can write a tutorial for begginers on download set up that can be understood by THE BEGINNER not assuming they understand all the Zen jargon as of yet.

You have a directory on your computer for:
    /download

and this is at the same level as:
    /images

and you have uploaded a download file:
    mydownloadfile.zip

and you have added to your Attribute in the Attribute Controller by referencing this file as:
    mydownloadfile.zip

and you are still seeing a red dot, correct?

If so, could you post, from the server, without your username and password, the file:
    /includes/configure.php

so that we can peek if there is an error in this file resulting in the problem ...

mts1...sorry have not been rooted to my computer this afternoon, so could not reply immediately

Use ftp program to upload zip file to your zencart store's
    download folder i.e. as per
    http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=104

XML file...depends what you require it for...

Ok I am about to post the includes/config.php>>>also the question of zip and xml was simply because my products are templates some come as zip files others as xml files, is there a need for 1-download-zipfile attribute and another download-xml attribute...or will the one download-zip attribute cover all of my downloads of templates. ....config.php>>>><?php
