Setting up downloadable products

I have searched forum, I am new and having trouble with setting up products. All of my products are download products. I set up new option name "DOWNLOAD", set up new option value "ZIP" in attribute controller i have correct category, price is showing correct, legend not sure what to click, download show YELLOW dot next to zip file +0.0000 0.00 there is a Yellow square-Blue square-orange square-pink square-purple square-red square. there is a RED dot next to file name (product name) days 7 Max 5. I copied file name exactly so it is the same name as in my download folder.
Download option highlighted, Zipfile[download] highlighted, prices and weights boxes are all empty, Attribute flags show NO-used for display purposes, Yes-Attribute is free when product is free, No- default attribute to be marked selected, Yes-Account discount to be used by product/special sale,Yes-include base price when priced by attribute,No-attribute required when used for text. Attribute Image Swatch, I downloaded a download pic after browsing computer files, overwrote any existing images, and entered download products file name as same name in down load folder. PRODUCT PRICE MANAGER shows in RED...... PREVIEW ONLY ....CURRENT PRICE STATUS.....PREVIEW ONLY...) Categories/product shows the product name , model, quantity, price and status is GREEN) in download manager product name, model, option name=Download, option value=zip, RED filename.
I AM VERY FRUSTRATED two day reading forum and can't get this to work forum posting were GREAT they helped me get alot done, but now i am so confused I followed everything I read to the letter. CAN ANY ONE FIGURE WHAT IS WRONG with the information supplied above.

Since this is general i figure I can ask! How come I see thousands of postings with thousands of views and only one or two replies. Are we that shallow that we can not help another? Today I spent countless hours being new reading over 100 postings and still I am stumped. I have no reply to my postings asking for help. Remember you all where new once before.

My main question is how to set up my store as a download only store. Say I have 100 products for just for the arguments sake let call the product e-books, the all all the same just different titles and different price. Everything elseabout them are identical

Do I set up a download attribute for each?
How do you set up the attributes for each if you do?
Should there be a cart button also?
Why is my download file showing a red dot nest to product name and saying MISSING FILENAME when i have copied the same name as it is in the download folder.

Basically I am lost and out of all these post I am feeling crazy here.

I cant believe there is no step by step for this when we are using the internet and most products are downloaded items.

I saw the posting on attributes and it helped to set up one but no understanding if all products are to be downloaded how that is configured. It just says if it is one product broken into several downloads.

PLease someone help me to understand. I am falling way behind setting up store simply because I have no clue how to do this.

Settings where there is only 1 zip download per product

Yellow Box...Used for display purposes...NO
Blue Box...Attribute is free when product is Free....YES
Orange Box..Default Attribute to be marked selected..NO
Pink Box...Apply Discounts..YES
Purple Box..Include in Base Price etc...YES
Red Box...Attribute reqd for Text..NO

Do not have hyphens or uppercase when you name download zips..

So another question if i may.

If you have 100 e-books say all the same but different Item numbers and prices do you set a new attribute for download for each book? And if so then can the information for the attributes be identical ecept for the product item numbers?

OR do you use the same download attribute for all being they are each a different file, unsure how it works.

Then you should have seen this tutorial: How do I add downloads to products? make products downloadable? which explains the process several different ways. Don't give up because you think it doesn't apply to your situation.

Hello forum,

I am new as of 01-23-10, Using version 1.3.8a, Patch 1 database patch level 1.3.8 installed with my version, not sure if I need to add another patch being that this one is current version.

No addons/changed colors/added logo/looked in FAQ/Searched forums.

I was wondering if you could clarify something for me. I seem to be having quite a problem setting up my store. All of my items are download purchases. I have looked in Tutorials/FAQ for downloads and read "How do I add downloads to products? make products downloadable?" While it was informative on setting up attributes, I am puzzled as to to things. 1) why do i get a red dot in the download slisting next to files? and 2) Do i need to make a new download attribute for each item and if so can all the information be exact other than my product description, model number and price. I am confused with the sort order and stuff. The FAQ is helpful but confusing at the same time. I saw what to do if you have A product with several downloads to the product but not if you say have 100 different products.

any help in the right direction is appreciated truly.
