I do not want to require that all people who purchase from the site require a username and password. How do I make it so that people can make purchases as a guest, without having to log in?

Look in the Free Software Add Ons section (link, top-left). Search for "checkout" and have a look at a couple of mods by numinix.
There's also a thread around here supporting the COWOA mod (CheckOut WithOut Account).
