Default Easy Populate 1.2.5.7.csv import issue

I am using Zen Cart v1.3.8a/v1.3.8
    I installed Easy Populate 1.2.5.7.csv
No errors so far. I have a .csv file that is from a wholesale provider company that is specifically set up to be imported to zencart without any changes. I spoke with tech suppport at this company that created the file I am trying to import and they told me to use the "easy populate module". I uploaded the file directly into the TempEP folder since it is a large file. I then go to tools, easy populate, type in the name of my database which i simply named "db.csv". I type it in the "import from Temp dir (TempEP/" box and click the insert into db button. At that point I scroll down at bottom and it says the name of the database (db.csv) very small just above the box which lists all databases (I only have one so the only one listed is the db.csv in the box). At that point I attempt to browse the store only to realize that the import obviously has not taken. I revieved no error but after clicking the import from Temp dir (TempEP/" box as mentioned before I noticed that it only takes a split second for it to finish what appeared to be the import. I know I may be confusing but I don't know what I need to do to make this work. The wholesale company for the products assures me that they use zencart which is why the csv is based on the category headers for zencart. Any help is appreciated. By the way, I changed the properties to 777 on the entire tempEP folder. Also fyi I am using godaddy....not sure if the hosting matters on this or not.

As them what VERSION of EP their file is structured for...

1.2.5.4 and 1.2.5.5 use a TAB DELIMITED TXT FILE FORMAT

Later versions use CSV DELIMITED FILE FORMAT

... Then there is the EP Advanced (Version 3) which is commercially available - it uses TAB FORMAT too.

Open your supplier's file in a plain text editor (such as notepad++ or Emerald Editor)...

... are the fields separated by a TAB... or a COMMA ?

Pardon my ignorance. There are 3 files included. The first is an Excel 97 to 2003 worksheet, the next is an Excel comma seperated value file, and the last is a text file that I opened and noticed it was tab seperated. Hope this is the answer that will help you in assisting me. Thanks you very much.

also I am fairly sure the files are meant for the Easy Populate 1.2.5.7.csv since the tech guy at the wholesale company sent me a direct link to this specific version to download. Thanks

Go into your admin and choose tools, then easy populate.

See where it says Download EP and Froogle Files
    Then choose the first option:

Option to Download Complete tab-delimited .txt file to edit Attributes Not Included).

This example is from the layout of Easy Populate 1.2.5.4. It may be a little different in another version.

Save this file on the desktop and open it with a spreadsheet application. You can name it .csv instead of .txt and then it should open correctly just by clicking.

Now compare the file you just opened with the one you are trying to import. You will need the exact same column names in the same order as the file you just downloaded, or your import file will not work.

If the columns are different, you probably are not using the same Easy Populate version as your supplier.

You said The first is an Excel 97 to 2003 worksheet, the next is an Excel comma seperated value file, and the last is a text file that I opened and noticed it was tab seperated.

I would try the text file, (because it is tab seperated, which is how mine works) you might want to make a copy of the text file and right click on it and rename the .txt part to .csv

If this is on a live website, backup your database first, before any imports are attempted.

Don't worry about the temp file, just use the browse tab under upload and go to where you have the file on your computer, then hit insert into db. This will only work if the file you downloaded has the same column names as the one you are trying to import.

Schoolboy was on the right track. He may not visit this forum everyday. He probably has a regular job. I am trying to help, but you should understand people may not visit everyday.

I get really frustrated in the forum too, but it is just the way it is with open source. I hope this makes some sense and helps you out.

    hello!!

    Im using:

    Zencart vers 1.3.8
    Easy Populate 1.2.5.7.csv

I followed your instructions, member. I must be doing something wrong or overlooked a factor because... it's not working for me. I have searched all over for answers but none of the troubleshooting tips helped...

These are the steps I took:

I manually added 2 items to my store to setup a template. Then I went to:

Tools>>Easy Populate>>Download Complete .csv file to edit (Attributes Not Included)

After I downloaded that file, I clicked on my .cvs file and it opened in excel. I saw the 2 items I added in my store on the list.

I added an item to the list following the pattern that is seen for the first 2 items.

    I then saved over it.

Then under "Upload EP File" I browsed for my.cvs file I just saved and click "Insert into db"

The follow was the message I got:

    Upload Results

    File uploaded.
    Temporary filename: /tmp/phpmK7Z0U
    User filename: Full-EP2010Feb28-1806.csv
    Size: 1470

My understanding is that... if it works.. it should give me a list of the new products that are added.... but I never got that...

What could it be? They way I saved it?

    Thanks
