    Default How to create option "Suitable for..." for Car Parts shop?

    Hello,

    recently I started my first my first shop using Zen cart, which till works really good mostly thanks to this forum and its members.

    Shop I created is Car Parts type, which includes many categories, subcategories and many spare parts (its planned to have cca 6000-7000 parts). Navigation system on my site works this way for examp.

    CarBrand -----> Model ----> Year -----> Spare parts -----> Product
    (Volkswagen ----> Passat -----> 2007 -----> Rims ------> Rims 17 inch)

    What is unique on Websites of this type (spare parts) is that ONE spare parts suits not just exclusively for one car model, its suits for more than one car model. Short example:

    Example 1 - above mentioned Rims 17 inch for Volkswagen Passat suits not just for passat - it suitable also for models like Golf, Jetta and New Beetle.

    As I have mentioned, I will have many spare parts which are suitable for more than just one car model, so I will need to have option that when end-user on my web site views these 17 inch Rims for VW Passat, he can also see short list bellow, which would look something like this:

    This car part (rims) is also suitable for:
    Volkswagen -> Golf -> year 2007
    Volkswagen -> Jetta -> year 2007
    Volkswagen -> New Beetle -> year 2007

    I searched good part of this forum looking for solution but I just can find it, also I searched in Addons but haven't found anything similar. I am note sure can this be realized somehow with option "Link product" - lets say when I insert this 17 inch rims in catalog trough admin panel, after that I linked that product also to categories "Volkswagen->New Beetle->2007" and "Volkswagen->Jetta->2007" and after that I would need to have some modul/box bellow product description which would show which categories are linked to that product (rims)??

    I dont know if this is possible but I am sure it would greatly improve all zen carts of this type like Spare parts or similar.

    Thanks.

    Cheers;)

    In meantime I also find one webiste whcih has something similar what I need

    Link

    You will notice little icon on the right side of the Air filter(s) - Application checker. When you rollover mose on icon you will see the list of car models which use same Air filter.

    It is not exactly what I have planed but its very similar.

    thnx for promt reply schoolboy, appreciate it.

    I have just checked site you have suggested and Its similar to mine but unfortunatly on the right side of site I dont see anything slimilar to my planned solution for exam. like "This part is also suitable for..." and list of models bellow. However I noticed coulmn table "Notes" click here did you mean on that part?

    Also as I mentioned this option is important for me to have it on my site so I am ready to invest time and money so I could solve it.

    I forgot to mention that through forum search I found one more very similar site to mine

    www.fuelpumpsusa.com (for example, please choose Volkswagen>Passat>1991)
    (note: in case you are not from USA click here so you could bypass Country restriction)

    You will notice that this air filter fits not just for another VW models (Golf and Jetta) but it also fits for other brands, in this case for Audi and Saab.
    He called this option "Application Guide" but it looks like he had to create this table manualy for each product (air filter) ??

    I did look at those site... but that technique for car spares is totally pointless...

    Why would I have the slightest interest in whether an air filter fits 8 different models of car?

    I don't care one little bit if a hubcap fits a Ford Escort, and also a Toyota Corrolla, and also a VW Touran and perhaps even an ox wagon...

    What I DO CARE is what parts fit MY VEHICLE.

    I know what MY VEHICLE is, so that is the logical start for my search.

    If a part happens to fit other vehicles, then whoopeee for the other vehicles... When owners of those vehicles are looking for that part, their logical search method is exactly the same as mine...

    If I drive an ox wagon, then that is what I will start my search with... If the air filter that fits the ox wagon, also fits a Boeing 747 so damned what. I don't care - as long as it fits my ox wagon.

    client which I work for imports/sells huge number of spare parts and beside selling auto parts he also has car-workshop.
    In that workshop works usually 3-4 mechanicians. This option I planned to have on my site is just important/intended for them.

    Why?
    Because that web site is their only source of information and for example if some of customers comes to his workshop and says: "I want to replace Fuel Filter on my Passat 2007" he will find it on Website (100 pieces on stock) and he will replace it for customer but he will also notice on "Suitable for..." list, that same Fuel Filter is suitable for Saab 900 and Audi 200. And lets say that for two days another customer comes and says "I want to replace Fuel Filter on my Audi 200" he will automatically know that he already has that Fuel Filter on stock (99 pieces left) and he can start replacing f.filter without checking if it has on stock. Ofcourse, this is just simple example, truth is that they have to-many customers per day, so you can imagine how this would help and speed-up their work.
